Hi my name is Vanessa, the proud founder and owner of The Knotary. I created The Knotary after realizing just how difficult (and honestly, awkward) it can be to find a marriage commissioner who truly aligns with your values. Searching through random names online and cold-calling strangers didn’t exactly feel warm, welcoming, or personal… especially for something as important and intimate as your wedding day. I figured there had to be a better way. So, The Knotary was born: a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where you can get to know me first — my personality, my values, and what I stand for.

Born and raised right here in Saskatchewan, community has always been at the heart of who I am. This province shaped my love for helping people, celebrating connection, and creating spaces where everyone feels seen and supported. Professionally, I’ve spent more than 15 years working as a leader in the public sector, where I’ve built a career around communication, relationship-building, and connecting with people from all walks of life.

While being a marriage commissioner and notary isn’t my full-time career, it’s something I genuinely love doing. For me, this work is about so much more than signing paperwork or standing at the front of a ceremony. It’s about creating an experience where you feel comfortable, celebrated, and seen. Whether you’re planning a big celebration, a tiny intimate ceremony, or simply making things official, I want your experience to feel easy, welcoming, and authentically you.
