To be legally married in Saskatchewan, couples must first purchase a Saskatchewan marriage licence. The licence is valid for 90 days and becomes effective the day after purchase. This means it can be purchased anytime from 1 - 90 days before the wedding ceremony.
Once the marriage licence is obtained, a registered Saskatchewan Marriage Commissioner or religious clergy member may perform the ceremony and complete the legal marriage documents. The completed paperwork is then submitted to eHealth Saskatchewan – Vital Statistics for official registration.
-
Unfortunately no, couples cannot get married at a Courthouse in Saskatchewan. In this province, the authority to perform and complete marriages is exclusively granted to religious clergy members and registered marriage commissioners. If you are looking to get married in Saskatchewan, you will need to work with either a religious clergy member or a registered marriage commissioner to register your marriage. Visit the Saskatchewan Government Website to view a list of marriage commissioners in your area.
